CHAPTER 1

JOHN WALKER

John Walker was born in the mid 1700's. According to the probate of his will, he died in 1826, and at that time was living in Rutherford County. He married Jane Ann Guffey. The Walkers and the Guffeys came over from Scotland and settled in Virginia. They came to North Carolina later.

It is not known where John Walker and his wife are buried, but probably at Cane Creek in unmarked graves, as most of his family lived around Cane Greek and Camp Creek. His will shows that he gave his son Jeremiah a tract of land on both sides of Little Camp Creek to take care of him and his wife Ann.

CHAPTER 2

JEREMIAH WALKER (1777)

1. He was born in 1777, son of John Walker and Jane Ann Guffey. He died January 18, 1845 and is buried at Cane Creek with a grave marker. He married Catherine (Katie) Street. Jeremiah lived on the land his father gave him on Camp Creek. Children: (1) David Richardson, born l804. (2) Jeremiah (Jerry) born 1812. (3) Jonathan, born 1824. (4) William (Bill). (5) Jesse Richardson, born 1802. (6) Polly. (7) Ann. (8) Lizzie.

CHAPTER 3

DAVID RICHARDSON WALKER


David Richardson Walker

(I) David Richardson was born May 19, l804, and died May 23, 1886. He married Nancy Street, born March 22, 1802 and died October 9, l864. Both are buried at Harmony Grove.. David owned over 800 acres of land in Rutherford County where Mt. Vernon Church and School now stand, and around Logan station . He sold it and bought more than 1,000 acres of land for $.25 per acre in "Tater Town" near Dysartsville in McDowell County, where Laurel Hill Church now stands. David helped organize Dysartsville Baptist Church on May 2, l857. After Nancy's death, David married Polly Early. They only lived together a short time and then separated. Polly is buried near Mooresboro.

CHAPTER 4

WILLIAM S. WALKER

William S. Walker (son of David Walker) was born July 23, 1835, and died in 1916. He married Nancy Jane Price, born May 12, 1842, died December 15, 1934. Their first of five children, Nancy Elizabeth was born February 5, 1862. William enlisted in the Confederate Army on April 15, 1862. He mustered into "B" Co. North Carolina 22nd Infantry. His record shows that the 22nd NC Infantry was in the thick of the battles including the Battle of Gettysburg. Family tradition says that he was a Captain however this is not confirmed as yet. Both he and Nancy are buried at Dysartsville.

Upon returning home, it is said that he had not made a crop so his father, David Walker, had he and Nancy come to stay with them. Some short time later William when home any way and built the house where he and Nancy raised their five children. The place of the Walker reunion, the third Sunday of September every year, is held there, and the house now occupied by a grandaughter is in part the house that William built.
